Announcing Walden Roots

“The push for more is a treadmill on which satisfaction is typically fleeting. The quest to be rich usually doesn’t end where many of its sojourners think it will. Wealth, by contrast, is funded contentment. It is the ability to underwrite a meaningful life — however one chooses to define that.” — Brian Portnoy

I launched Walden Financial in 2020 with this mission statement: to enrich our clients lives by inspiring them to live with intention and purpose. I worked hard on curating that statement. It was important to me to capture exactly the kind of financial practice I wanted to create and what it would mean to my clients to do so.

Energized by my mission, I charged forward with new clients experimenting with different techniques and exercises that I hoped would result in statements of intention and purpose that were both meaningful and actionable. This proved to be much harder than I thought it would be. How exactly do I inspire someone to use their resources to live intentionally and purposefully?

I returned to my roots and reread Brian Portnoy’s book, The Geometry of Wealth. In it I found this definition of true wealth.

“The push for more is a treadmill on which satisfaction is typically fleeting. The quest to be rich usually doesn’t end where many of its sojourners think it will. Wealth, by contrast, is funded contentment. It is the ability to underwrite a meaningful life — however one chooses to define that.”

I realized that the first step in creating a Holistic Financial Planning and Comprehensive Wealth Management process was to help my clients get clear on what funded contentment means to them uniquely and specifically. After a little self-reflection, I realized that this work was outside my wheelhouse, and I needed an expert to help me and my clients define funded contentment in terms of core values, financial purpose, and goals.

What I was missing was a person. A person that has experience going deeper than the surface level. A person that has an extreme level of empathy. A person that doesn’t judge. A person that believes as strongly as I do in the mission of Walden Financial.

As luck would have it, she was just a phone call away, and one lunch meeting later the idea of Walden Rootswas born

Walden Roots is the first phase of our Holistic Financial Planning and Comprehensive Wealth Management process, led by Kathy Patton. The objective of the Walden Roots process is to discover, define, and document your financial purpose in a way that brings meaning to your life by uniquely informing financial decision-making, planning, and execution.

We will answer questions like: What truly matters to you? What are your core values? Why are you working so hard? What exactly are you saving for? How much is enough? Do I have a timeline for my dreams?

These intricate pieces will be woven into a financial purpose statement that will serve as the roots of your financial plan. It is some of the hardest “soft” work you will ever do.

As we launch this next phase of Walden Financial, I invite you to schedule an introductory call HERE to explore how this process might benefit you.
